Give Help

Volunteer to be part of the LYN Team. From delivering food parcels, to making phone calls, and helping with Job Club and our Debt Centre, there are lots of ways to serve and get involved.

We’re also looking to support other charitable organisations across the city who are in desperate need of volunteers right now.

Support Streams

  • Foodbank

    Our Foodbank is only available with a referral. We’re open for collection on Wednesdays between 12—3PM at Gas Street St Luke’s, B15 2AT. We are also able to offer doorstep deliveries to those who would struggle to visit the Foodbank in person.You need a voucher or a referral to access the food bank. You can get one from an agency or care professional, or contact the team on 0121 820 5618.

    The Community Shop

    Members of The Community Shop can get a shop for £3 from 9:30—11:30AM every Thursday. We use a ticket-based entry, available from 8:30AM. Registration is required, please register here. To be eligible for The Community Shop you must live within a 1.6km radius of Gas Street St Luke’s Church building and be in receipt of means-tested benefits.

  • Money Matters comes alongside those who are struggling and facing financial issues. The team of volunteers support and build friendships with their clients and then offer practical help and financial advocacy. Money Matters empowers clients to tackle the financial issues they are facing, from assisting with filling out benefits applications to budgeting guidance. The team also signpost and refer clients to the CAP Debt Centre.

  • Kids Matter run accessible and effective parenting programmes to parents and carers of children under 12. They come alongside families and equip them with practical parenting tools and ideas to help build strong families. The programme empowers parents, as well as offering friendship and community.

  • CAP provide free and non-judgemental advice for those struggling with debt. The team help clients to access support from trained debt advisors at CAP Head office who then come up with realistic budgets and payments, as well as negotiate with creditors. The team also come alongside clients, committing to long-term support and befriending.

  • The CAP Job Club is a friendly place to get practical help as you seek employment. It’s a relaxed environment with the chance to meet other jobseekers, get support and gain the tools needed to find work. During the free 8-week course you can access 1:1 coaching, email and phone support.

  • Facing life alone is hard, and when you feel there is no one there to support you it is a scary place to be. Therefore, at Safe Families, they offer support, hope and belonging to improve the lives of those in our communities. They link children, young people and families with local volunteers who can offer them help and support.

  • This provides an opportunity for anyone who wants to practice English and grow in confidence. It’s for anyone aged 18 or over whose first language is not English. Running during term times. Monday evenings at GS St Luke’s, 7-9pm. Registration is required.

Try Alpha

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the big questions of life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. We intentionally create a relaxed and low-pressured atmosphere so no question is ‘off the table’ and everyone is welcome. Alpha has been running all over the world for the last couple of decades in churches, pubs, prisons & homes where nearly 30 million people have taken part and loved the experience.
